Been to Slowtrain lately? If so, then you've surely noticed our eyesore of an ashtray posing as a flower bed out front. It is gross. Don't believe me...check it out for yourself. See. Looks terrible, right? We've tried to beautify it ourselves - but here's the thing, we can't water any plants we put in there because it leaks into our basement. And frankly, we're not really into traditional cacti, plus we think any planter-esque display will still draw everyone's cigarette butts and garbage. So here's where you all and your incredibly creative minds come into play. WE NEED YOU TO HELP BEAUTIFY SLOWTRAIN! Pleeease. We're begging you. We're even BRIBING you. Yes, bribes! It is a contest... Draft up your idea of what we should do with our space. Feel free to come check it out in person, measure things out, think outside the (flower)box. We'll be taking entries through September and if we get enough good ones we'll put it to our loyal customers for a vote! If your idea is what we use to beautify our space we'll give you a $100 Slowtrain gift card. If you take it an extra step further and contribute labor/time/material to implement your idea we'll throw in an extra $50 cash. The rules... 1) Describe your idea. Let us know what it will look like and why you think this will be the best compliment to Slowtrain's store front. Make sure your idea is low maintenance and cost-effective. Things to keep in mind: we'd like to deter transients from sleeping there, we don't want the space to become a trash pit, we can't really water in there, if it is green it is better, we'd like it to reflect the shop/street - whatever that means. 2) Send us a visual of your idea. Draw a lil' picture or something...it doesn't have to be fancy or high tech, but it will certainly help us get your full idea when reading about your design. 3) Include a cost estimate. Your estimate doesn't need to be spot on, but it will be helpful to us when narrowing our choices. 4) Submit your plans to us via email at planter@slowtrainmusic.com - include "Beautifying Slowtrain" in the subject header so we can easily identify the projects in our inbox. And don't forget to include your name and best contact info. 5) Last but not least - HAVE FUN! This should be a chance to share your creativity and make East Broadway (and Slowtrain) a more beautiful place. Thanks in advance...we can't wait to see what you come up with. xo, anna & chris |
