As heard on Radio West: The Devil Whale Like Paraders is a
brooding, romantic work of slightly twangy,
slightly poppy rock & roll replete with lines
like "I'm a crash and a burn from being in
love/ I'm a midnight kiss away from being
someone" and "You creature of indifference/
Why do I still need you?" If you didn't know
better, you'd assume Jones is either
hopelessly whooped or nursing wounds from an
ex-flame-or a lingering polyp. -Jamie
Gadette, City Weekly
we also have CDs from the devil whale guitarist, Marcus Bently... RECENT ARRIVALS no age The Sub Pop debut by this LA
duo is succinctly all encompassing, from the
faux simplicity of the title to the beautiful
distortion of its sound, to the packaging
that includes a 68-page full-color book
packed with photos and art pieces. The record
opens with a symphony of noise and sometimes
creeps, sometimes smashes through a sonic
headlock befitting "Daydream Nation"-era
Sonic Youth, Kiwi pop, My Bloody Valentine,
and experimental noise.
animal collective Features four
previously unreleased tracks; two are from
the Wavelab Studio sessions that produced the
critically acclaimed album "Strawberry Jam".
All tracks show the band propelling forward
on their mad genius trajectory.
earles & jensen present Rather
than mocking or offending, Earles and Jensen
use phone calls to build recurring characters
and concerns of warmth, depth, and
complexity. The recipients are often laughing
or intellectually engaged - and Earles and
Jensen themselves get so wrapped up in their
characters that you sense they've forgotten
they're acting. The subjects range from 80s
TV shows to tattoo doctoring to the
highlights of indie rock. Two CDs for the
price of one, with 58 phone calls, 48-page
booklet, and original drawings by Devendra
Banhart, Adam Green, Jennifer Herrema, Gavin
McInnes, Archer Prewitt, Matt Sweeney, and
other luminaries.
long blondes Familiar retro
influences, like Pet Shop Boys, Blondie, and
Pulp are recalled but not imitated, resulting
in an original sophomore album. While their
signature narratives form intelligent and
sharp observations about romance and life,
the lyrics are set to a rich, synthy,
electronic sound that suggest the moment New
Order's eardrums first vibrated to house and
disco in NYC, 1981.

OUT OF TOWN
it is so true. chris and anna are ditching
salt lake next week for the gray skies of
portland and seattle. and we couldn't be more
nervous/excited/freaked out about the whole
thing. so here is the deal:
we are gone on tuesday, may 13 and we'll be
back on monday, may 19. this is our longest
trip away from the store, but we're leaving
you in good hands. everyone's favorite
post-hippy, chaz will cover most of our
afternoons. our steady right hand, ryan
will fill in the night spots. and if you see
a guy behind the counter that looks like
chris, it isn't. but say hello to jesse for us.
between these three guys everything at
slowtrain should be under control, but if you
want to reach us directly because you miss us
so much and need to express how nothing is
the same in our absence, please send us an
email at
info@slowtrainmusic.com. we'll be checking it
obsessively and responding accordingly.
